Treatment consisting of orthodontics combined with orthognathic surgery ideally should be attempted after condylar growth is complete. Determining when condylar growth has stopped may be difficult, imaging may include longitudinal radiographic studies to assess the dimensions of the condyle and mandible, nuclear imaging techniques, ‘or both. A lack of unusual bone activity, demonstrated in a technetium bone scan, is a useful indication of arrested condylar growth.
